Last Friday, Etsy announced that seller fees are going to increase from 5 to 6.5%, which is so much more painful than it appears on the surface. That's
because that fee is leveled on "the total transaction cost" which is the item AND shipping. This means that they're charging me against portions of the transition I don't make any money on. Etsy says the increase in fees will mostly pay for “marketing, seller tools, and creating world-class customer experiences.” (lol.) It's also no secret that Etsy now makes more money off sellers paying for seller services (like Promoted Listings, and Etsy Plus) than they do on these transaction
fees.Â

Tl;dr- this hurts a lot. Last year I paid just over $29,000 in Etsy fees and Etsy shipping labels. This year, under the new fee structure, that number becomes $37,700.

This has, understandably, lit a fire under my butt to get the shop on NightBlooming.com up and running asap. I'm hoping for early access for
Patrons soon-ish, and perhaps a full launch by my store's anniversary
in April.
